Rich, Not Arrogant, Joe Brat’s first mixtape, sums up his life growing up in Europe and the trials and tribulations that he has gone through to get where he is now. I personally produced the instrumentals for this album, and I know that a lot of hard work and time has been put into the final product. A lot of realness is dropped on this mixtape and should be listened to thoroughly. Joe is straight out of the EU, particularly Sweden and London. He has a swag that you haven’t heard before, and a style that suits all occasions. Joe Brat has a passion for creating music that stays true to his culture, and his passion shows throughout the duration of his mixtape. With a mind driven for success, we should expect much more heat from Joe Brat in the future!

He was macking super hot chicks when you were learning to tie your shoes.

- For those who don’t know you yet, tell us a little about yourself.

I am DSTRUCTIVE; a 22 year old artist raised in metro Atlanta. My main hustles are music, printing t-shirts, and working for the man. I went to college to study film/video production (another one of my passions), but only finished one year. In high school I dabbled in hip hop (occasionally freestyling), but never got serious about music until after I left college.

- When and how did you first become interested in music? How long have you been playing music?

I have been a connoisseur of hip hop since hearing coolio’s “gangsta’s paradise.” Although there was no way I could have related to the song’s lyrics at the time (around 7-8 years old), there was an unexplainable quality about hip hop that drew me in naturally. The soundtrack to dangerous minds was the first cd I ever owned. Before that I had only really listened to my parents’ music.

- What else do you do besides make music?

I listen to lots of music (everything: oldies, rock, hip hop, symphonies), make t-shirts, watch hella movies, party, procrastinate, work as a shift manager at blockbuster, and overall enjoy my time on earth.

- What is your favorite type of music?

Dstructive's favorite song as a child was Can't Touch This by MC Hammer.

If I had to pick one specific genre: Hip hop, no question. The classics are my forte: mos def, dilla, gangstarr, common, atmosphere, red and meth, etc. I do listen to almost everything else, though. Other genre artists I like: the beatles, Bob Marley, led zeppelin, ac/dc, brand new, matisyahu, modest mouse, and this list could go on forever.

- Why do you want to record and release your own music? Also, why did you choose this specific genre/type of music?

Making music is fun. That’s a huge reason that I make music. Everyone has a passion and hip hop happens to be mine. I chose this particular genre: 1) because hip hop is my favorite style of music, and 2) there came a time when I said to myself “I know I can make better music than a lot of what is played on the radio,” so I decided to pursue it seriously. It is definitely not a superiority thing, though. I respect the talent of popular musicians, but I believe I have enough skill to hang.

- What type of person would like your music the most?

I think classic hip hop fans will really dig what I have to offer. People that appreciate lyric oriented music should be pleased as well. My main focus is thought-provoking lyrics, but I throw in some humor to keep it interesting. My music isn’t gangster because I’m not gangster, but If you like hip hop, I am making music for you.

- What are your songs about?

Each song has its own individual theme, of course, but generally my music is about every day experiences and my thoughts on life. I don’t talk about having a lot of money because I don’t. My songs are less about what I have and more about the experiences I am having. I do have a couple of songs about love, some party music, and even some parody type songs.

- Do you write your own songs?

Absolutely. Lyrics are the biggest part of hip hop to me. How an artist sends a message in his/her song is what separates them from other artists. I feel that no artist can accurately articulate how I feel for me better than I can on my own.

Dstructive performing at a house party with your boy DJ Isso

- Who and what are your musical influences?

I pretty much just try to follow in the steps of the great soulja boy tellum… (sarcasm) Nah… Like I said mostly classic stuff. If I said eminem wasn’t one it would be a lie. He is/has been/always will be dope. Some folks have made comparisons obviously because I’m white. I’m on completely different subject matter, though.

- How do you describe your music to people?

After the awkward stare I get when I tell people I make hip hop, I make sure to add that its somewhat intelligent and more similar to the classics than what’s played commercially today. Like a mix between lil john and the beatles

- What image do you think your music conveys?

Exactly what I am, a goofy yet complex white dude. I don’t put on a false image. I just stay true to who I am. I don’t want to sell an image either, just good music.

- What are your immediate music career goals?

Right now I am working on releasing my first official mixtape in a few weeks. I definitely want to distribute that as widely as possible. Independent radio play is another immediate goal for me. Getting some shows at larger more diverse venues… Other than that, just day to day progression in writing and freestyling as well.

- What are your long-term career goals?

The main goal is to be a hip hop artist by profession, to make enough money from music to live well. A couple of grammys are on the list as well. I won’t lie I’m shooting for the stars. I see my potential as endless. There are several other endeavors that I would like to pursue on top of hip hop, but music is the main focus for now.

- How would you define the word “success”?

Success to me is when people genuinely respect you for what you are doing. Money seems to be the definition for a lot of other cats out there. I personally think that when money is the main focus, a person can never really reach their full potential. I make music to make the best music possible, so when someone is feeling my music, I have succeeded.

- Are you looking for an independent label deal or a major label deal? Or a deal at all?

Honestly I would love to make/promote/distribute all of my own music from here on out. The reality, sadly, is that if someone is trying to expose themselves on a national/international scale it takes money, and lots of it. At $9/hour I should have enough to fund my self in about… a hundred years. But seriously, I’m not one of those strictly underground rappers. In the end it will come down to deciding who has the most to offer me not only as payment but also creative leeway. I don’t want to be told what to say or be written for, but I would also like the means to have my music reach as many ears as possible. In the end I would like my own label, but first things first.

- What live performance experience have you had and how do you rate your performance ability?

I have had only a handful of performances at this point, but I feel 100% comfortable performing. I know a lot of people dig it because they tell me. Several complete strangers have congratulated me on a dope show. Performances are definitely a strong point for me. I really look forward to having more in the future, and visiting other cities to showcase my talent.

Dstructive LOVES his microphone...

- What should fans look forward to for the the future?

A lot of dope music, most of all. We are going to add a fresh perspective to southern music and turn some heads in the process. I am working on getting some video stuff to add a visual to the audio madness. With the release of the mixtape I am gonna bomb the web with DSTRUCTIVE. You will be seeing lots more of me.

- What are your weaknesses?

Procrastination is my biggest one. I push stuff aside a lot. I am working on becoming more organized and focused, especially on the promotion and business end. Musically, I am very critical of my work, so some songs I write and rewrite until I’m satisfied. It’s only a weakness because it can turn a song into a 2/3 week project.

- How do you think the internet has changed the game for musicians and entertainment?

The internet has become a great tool for finding/showcasing music. It is the main source of music for millions worldwide. Now the problem isn’t finding new music, but sorting through the garbage to get to the good stuff. Regular guys have jumped into the spotlight overnight because of the internet. It seems like it could happen to anyone these days. Lots of dudes only have that one song then fade away. Because there’s so much music now, it seems like the industry has developed that throw away artist mentality. They will pick dudes capitalize on the moment, then as soon as the buzz wears off, BAM! you’re gone.

- What is your favorite thing to do besides making music?

Now that I think about it, music has become a big part of my life. Other than music and my 9-5 (which I wouldn’t say is one of my favorite things to do), I just chill. I play video games and watch movies when I’m killing time, but most things I do for fun involve music.

If you made it to the end of this interview, you deserve a cookie! Be sure to check out Dstructive’s website at http://www.iamdstructive.com and tell a friend!

At $9/hour I should have enough to fund my self in about... a hundred years.

Dstructive – Another Dirty Word (free mp3 download!)

Wassup folks?

Your boy DJ Isso here again. Just wanted to let everybody in on one of my favorite beat murderers from the A: Dstructive. His style is unlike any other rapper you have ever heard… unless you’ve listened to Atmosphere or Eminem. Haha. Just a quick shot at Dstructive because I know he will read this. To be honest, he doesn’t sound that similar to them because he has such an original style and lyrics that will knock your head off it’s shoulders. I’ve seen it happen before. You do not want to see this man freestyle battle a microphone… Okay, maybe you do.

Dstructive fake rapping at the Isso Productions Studio. Pretty convincing if you ask me, but you didn't.

Anyways, back to my point and entire reason for this blog post. Dstructive will be dropping his first mixtape soon. Most of it will be produced by me (your boy DJ Isso from Isso Productions), and then the other tracks will be over classic J Dilla beats. If you don’t know who J Dilla is, then you should click here now! After you watch/listen to that video of the top 20 J Dilla beats, go Google his name and recognize how great he is and the major impact he has had on the hip hop game! Dilla is one of my personal influences and I am positive he is an influence to many more.

Now, on to the REAL reason for this blog post. I just want everyone to get a sneak peak at one of Dstructive’s songs that will be featured on his mixtape entitled: The Warm Up. This song is called “Another Dirty Word” and has a great theme to it that the majority of us have experienced at least once. Oh yeah, the beat is by J Dilla. I only wish I could make a beat as cool as this one.

Dstructive doesn’t come hard on this track, he comes super smooth and soft. He switches his style on the universe with his unique showcase of word play and creative methods of rhyming. He might think he is smart and well educated with his increasingly large vocabulary, and maybe he is, but listeners like myself might have to google a few words that we hear in this track to fully understand the meaning behind the song. Just kidding, its not that complicated.

Dstructive performing at the Red Light Cafe in Atlanta, Georgia (click to enlarge)

Overall, this song is super tight for anyone who enjoys listening to underground hip hop that has true value and meaning to it. I give full proppers (new word I stole from someone) to Dstructive for laying down the genius lyrics and concepts for this song. I think many divorced men can relate to this song. Just listen to the first verse and you’ll know why. After listening to the complete track, you will realize that Dstructive falls in love with a woman named Mary after breaking up with one of his first loves. Of course, I can’t describe the story as well as Dstructive does, so you should just listen to it while reading my blog post and then listen to it again to block out my ridiculous rambling.

In the end, we all know that great things always come to an end, but we always learn from our experiences and start over with new ideas of what we really want out of life. Life is a journey and every experience we go through is a learning process. I believe the real meaning behind Dstructive’s song is to enjoy the great things in life while they last, because nothing lasts forever.

Please do not relate any of my writings to Dstructive in any way (except the good parts). Be sure to form your own opinion about him and then visit his website at http://www.iamdstructive.com to listen to a few more of his tracks! You might find a song you really enjoy listening to! Trust me! I’ve given CDs to 35+ year olds and they actually liked it! Yeah, I know… Amazing!

Dstructive’s mixtape will be dropping within the next month or so and it will be available for free download on the Isso Productions website along with many other websites!

Just spend a few minutes of your time and listen to this song! Do it! Now!!!

If you are still bored, go check out the OurStage blog. They created their own little blog post about Dstructive and gave me the idea to create this one! See what they have to say about this new phenomenon here. You can also find the lyrics to the song on their blog post!

Peace,

Info:

Relapse is the sixth studio album by American rapper Eminem. It was released by record label Interscope Records, along with subsidiaries Aftermath Entertainment and Shady Records, first on May 15, 2009, followed by May 19 in the United States. Relapse is Eminem’s first studio album since Encore in 2004, thus ending the rapper’s musical hiatus of five years. Dr. Dre, who produced for Eminem throughout Eminem’s career, produced most of the tracks on Relapse and performed on the number-one single “Crack a Bottle”, which also featured 50 Cent. “We Made You” followed and also made the top ten on the U.S. singles chart. Other singles included “3 a.m.”, “Old Time’s Sake”, and “Beautiful”, which were all top 40 hits in the U.S. Relapse debuted #1 on the U.S. albums chart, selling over 608,000 domestic copies in its first week and over 1,000,000 worldwide.

Opinionated Review:

First of all I would like to say that I am a huge fan of eminem. Like a lot of people, I believe that Eminem is the greatest “rapper” of all time. This fact makes me feel almost guilty when I say the days of the old Slim Shady are over forever.

The first hint of change can be found in the introduction track. Slim’s voice has definitely matured, and, after hearing the album numerous times, a change in his music can be heard, too. He has stuck with the trademark use of controversial lyrics, which I like because thats what makes Eminem different and entertaining.

The track “Same song and dance” talks about eminem abducting and killing Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears. This is classic slim, taking hits at teeny bopper pop stars, but it sounds a little darker now. You can tell by his lyrics he has a somewhat “tortured soul,” even more so than before.

This album released 5 singles in the month before the album drop: “Crack a bottle”, “3 AM”, “We made you”, “old time’s sake”, and “beautiful.” As always, the more “poppy” tracks were released as singles, and didn’t give the full insight to his album. Now that Eminem is sober he seems darker to me. “My Mom”, “insane”, and “Deja Vu” perfectly demonstrate this point. The no holds barred honesty he displays makes these songs really cut deep and provoke an unfamiliar reaction.

“Insane” speaks of his step father’s sexually abusive tendencies and his mother’s indifference to the whole situation. I believe this may be too honest for some people to swallow. Although it does give a deep personal glance into the psyche of our pop icon. On the other side, there are songs like “must be the ganja” and “hello” that provide a more playful tone and have a much higher replay value. The album is packed with the classic slim shady humor that disgusts the conservative but intoxicates a classic shady fan.

Lyrically Eminem came as hard as ever. Each individual line on the album has more rhymes than an entire soulja boy track, showing that even after a prolonged hiatus, he still hasn’t lost a step. The instrumentals on the album were largely provided by Dre, so the beats are all as solid as concrete. The chemistry between dre and em continues stronger than ever.

For the people who say that the album “isn’t the same as the old eminem,” I say of course its not. A lot of things happened to slim in the 5 years since his last album. I would assume he is a changed man, and thus his music would naturally change too. You will be hard pressed to find another artist of any genre that has come as hard as Eminem for their entire career.

For that fact, I have an unconditional respect for him, and I believe that, no matter the lyrical content, Eminem will always produce music worth hearing.

Info:

Blackout! 2 is the second studio album by rap duo Method Man & Redman. It was their first album in ten years. The album was released on May 19, 2009 under Def Jam. It debuted at #7 on the U.S. Billboard 200 and at #64 on the French Album Charts.

Opinionated Review:

At no surprise, Method and Red throw down hard on Blackout! 2 with some sweet tunes. My personal favorite track is “City Lights” featuring Bun B. This track brings a very hard hitting beat with some intense sounds. It reminds me of a an old school UGK track combined with a new school northern style. The track starts off with a chopped up hook straight up UGK style and then Redman comes in and throws down one of the hardest verses on the album. Many people agree that this is one of the hottest tracks on the album and it is also one of the main singles.

Another personal favorite of mine, “Dis Iz 4 All My Smokers,” has a very high replay value as well. Smooth sounding strings and a slow drum beat fill this track and then Meth and Red come in and smash the beat. The song may be cliche, but every major artist seems to have their own drug or smoking weed song and this seems to be their very own.

Every song on this album is not a hit, but that is pretty much the case with every album. This album definitely has several of its own filler tracks. However, another track that I really do enjoy listening to is “A-Yo.” The lyrics and hook are fire, but the beat is what stands out the most to me on this track. Sweet brass and a fast piano riff make this beat bump. The bass line is dope as hell too! Superp production on this track.

I have been listening to this album for several weeks since I copped it. It definitely has a very high replay value and in my opinion, it remains to be one of the hottest albums out so far this year. If you are into the old Method Man and Redman you will most likely enjoy this album. It has a vibe of old school flavor mixed with new school trends. Occasionally throught the album, you will notice they play around with the ever so trendy Autotune effect. Of course they aren’t being serious about it, but it does make the songs a lot more entertaining to listen to for mainstream heads.

In closing, I believe that the duo created a smash album and didn’t follow the mainstream trends too closely like a lot of major artists are doing nowadays. I respect Red and Meth for sticking closer to their roots even when the mainstream music industry is increasingly using voice altering effects.

This album is definitely worth listening to, buying, or downloading. Whichever you choose, be sure to support the artists if you end up enjoying their music!

We’re just spreading the word and trying to open other people’s minds. Please read and watch this post at your own discretion.

Infamous illuminati hand symbol - Mos Def

Back in the late 70’s and early 80’s when hip-hop was in its embryonic stages, most rap and hip-hop tracks had a happy-go-lucky vibe, with lyrics that talked about such things as who was the best MC or DJ. There were more serious rappers, like Grandmaster Flash, who rapped about life in the ghetto. But even then, the songs had an overall positive vibe and the lyrics, although sometimes a bit deep and serious, usually tried to positively educate the young listener by speaking to them on their level and using terms that they can relate to. It was when we reached the mid 80’s that hip-hop really started to evolve and many sub-genres started to develop. There were artists like Rob Base, Ice-T, Public Enemy, Run DMC, The Beastie Boys, Tone-Loc, De La Soul, and countless others.

Whatever you thought about any of these artists, hip-hop had a sense of honesty and integrity about it. For the most part, it appears that the genre sprang out of the grassroots. A lot of rap artists had actually lived the kind of life they rapped about. To some extent or other, many of them had already gained first-hand experience of the guns, drugs, racism, gang warfare, and the general despair of living life in the ghetto. For example, many of these issues were covered in a song called Colors, by Ice-T. In this song, Ice-T plays a character who lives this kind of life. Ice-T admits that he didn’t personally live that kind of life but the character is based on the kind of person who does. Then a couple of years later, a rap outfit called NWA started rapping about the same issues in their debut album, Straight Outta Compton. And although the music was very good, they gave the misleading impression that they were actually living lives as gangsters in the ghetto. But in reality these guys were living millionaire lifestyles in the lap of luxury. I personally found this to be somewhat hypocritical and it was at this point that I realised that hip-hop had been taken over by the marketing gurus, who weren’t just selling a lie, they were selling it to kids under the pretence that artists like “Vanilla Ice” had actually tasted life in the ghetto – yeah right!

Now hip-hop has reached the stage where it is being used to predictively program the minds of today’s youth. In addition, many of today’s top hip-hop artists are clearly involved to some degree in secret fraternal orders. They even have the audacity to flash masonic symbols all over the place. To me, this is an insult to the people who buy their music, and it shows that freemasonry has infiltrated just about every part of society, right down to the grassroots levels. I mean, if you can’t even buy an album from your favorite rap artist without being predictively programmed and bombarded with masonic symbols and terms, then what is the world coming to?

Don’t get me wrong though, there are still plenty of great rap artists out there who haven’t been compromised by the elite – such as Immortal Technique. And even the ones who have been compromised in some way, are not necessarily bad people and they may not even know that their strings are being pulled. All I can advise people to do is be aware of the symbolism, and be aware of how the music and film industries are being used to alter our behaviour by influencing the way we think about things.

————————————–
